Tania Cagnotto and Francesca Dallapè, the most successful European diving duo of all time, decide to resume training after both becoming mothers, with Tokyo 2020 in their sights. Then the pandemic strikes, bringing difficult decisions and a synchronised partnership that stretches—but never breaks.

In After Dive, the story unfolds through a narrative structure that brings together a range of elements to create an intimate and sincere portrait of the two protagonists.

The documentary footage is interwoven with audiovisual materials of different kinds—television and private archives, as well as the athletes’ Instagram Stories—organised according to emotional, poetic and thematic criteria. Each element carries a precise meaning.

The film aims to offer a dual portrait of the athletes and of the unique bond they share: an ongoing, honest dialogue that continues through to the very end, despite difficulties and unforeseen circumstances. There is a synchrony between them that extends far beyond the world of sport—a singular relationship strengthened over time, like an additional quality, a secret weapon: something that, unlike everything else, cannot be achieved through training and discipline alone.

*After Dive* is an exploration that combines rational and emotional thought to create a poetic portrait of what drives Tania and Francesca to pursue, with loyalty and consistency, their goal of always remaining true to themselves—as women, mothers and athletes.
